I work on computers. Over the past several months, I have noticed an increase in malicious threats winding up on computers because people are unaware of what they are clicking on or downloading. When you download a program or an attachment, look carefully at your computer screen and make sure that is all you are downloading. What happens is that below the item you want to download, there are other items in smaller or gray print with checkboxes filled in. These are extra programs that will be downloaded and installed on your computer. Please make sure you uncheck these before downloading the item you want. When you are not careful, these additional programs appear to be valid programs to your security software. This is how your security software is “tricked”. Before you know it, it’s too late. You will have malicious software, otherwise known as malware, on your computer.
Another way to get malicious threats on your computer is by clicking on links that lead to spyware, adware, and all sorts of malicious type threats.
My advice is to be very careful what you download and what you click on. Also, run frequent security scans.
